Somebody’s Son

BEHIND THE WORDS

About the song

Wars and disasters become statistics because numbers are psychologically easier to absorb than people. Every casualty once had a bedroom, favourite song, family, routines and plans for tomorrow.

Its place on the album

The political and historical scale of the earlier songs becomes intimate. A casualty is no longer an abstract total, but somebody with a room, routines, relationships and a tomorrow they expected to have.
