When Nobody Needs You

BEHIND THE WORDS

About the song

A life spent being useful-to an employer, children, family or community-can leave a frightening question when those roles disappear: Who are you when nobody needs anything from you anymore? The song explores ageing, retirement, purpose and the difference between being useful and being loved.

Its place on the album

Near the end of the album, the question becomes personal: what remains when the roles that once organised a life begin to fall away? It brings purpose, ageing and connection into view before the closing ordinary day.
