BEHIND THE WORDS
Power Failure closes Special Delivery with a takedown of prop-heavy bravado and franchise-hopping references. Cartoons, games, cars and costume imagery collide with a recurring contrast: a catalogue of objects versus a clean pen.
The final track brings the album’s competitive argument back to the writing. The references can keep changing, but the test remains whether there is a thought underneath the costume.
Power Ranger? Cool, keep morphin' for the camera Whole verse full of toys, Hasbro propaganda You brought every reference you could fit in the stanza I brought one pen - now watch me dismantle the Ranger
Book bound? Yeah, but nobody read the chapter Ashley Schaeffer whip, still nobody laughing after Grip the stick, spin the Beamer, mask like a Ranger Man dressed up for the lick like a low-budget stranger
"Fuck the feds," then describe every crime in detail That's less gangster, more evidence sent through email Monsters under beds? Better look beneath yours 'Cause the scariest thing there is them metaphors
Run the Jewels? Better run back the instrumental Tim Taylor tools but the build ain't residential Dairylea cheddar, Lunchables stacked You made a packed lunch then called it a trap
Elmer Fudd strapped? Cartoons again Bugs Bunny bars from two grown men Green when he coughed? Looney Tunes smoke Nine and Dex turned the booth to a Saturday show
"Need green, I'm a herbivore" - broccoli bars Labrador sniffing while you're barking at cars Santa Claus breaking in, taking the food So the big bad robber is a Christmas-time dude?
Break ya neck, Busta Rhymes - heard that before Porcupine sticks but you're hugging the floor Every line got a weapon attached at the end Take the props away - what you actually said?
Vintage stick made in the fifties? Grandad flex OAP movement, need a bus pass next Family Bible inside of her drawers? That metaphor needs Jesus more than she does
Ark Survival, dinosaurs, jewels on the wrist You're not dangerous, you're gaming with a Christmas list Whole catalogue sounding like Steam on sale Every sixteen bars another franchise trail
No morphin' time, take the costume off All them sticks and still the writing comes soft Comic-Con villains with the catalogue flex Power Ranger bars - I'm cancelling the set
No Megazord, no Beamer, no stick Just one clean pen dismantling the script Five Rangers needed when the monsters appeared I came by myself and made the whole squad disappear
Taylor Swift jewels, now the bracelet's enchanted "Step correct or take the lift" - stairs were granted "Number two," finally one fact landed Called yourself shit - couldn't have planned it
Impreza, Subaru, Japanese plate Sat-nav talking but you still lost your way Boot too hot with the guns and cash? Same old flex in a different car dash
Big Lebowski, Mike Wazowski Two more films since the last bar, broski Eye on the ball? Yours wandered off-screen One-eyed monster couldn't watch this many scenes
Drop the clutch, ten-inch subs start shaking Whole car loud 'cause the bars ain't saying Go live, stream like Limmy does People streaming all right - straight past your stuff
One eye closed, Romesh reference Then masturbation - incredible progression Hammer so loud you're losing your hearing Maybe that explains why you thought this was clearing
Gaviscon bars 'cause the verse gives reflux Double action still couldn't double these setups Megatron body kit, Comic-Con rides You called yourself cosplay - I just cosigned
Kevin James, King of Queens, lemonade This ain't battle rap, it's a pub quiz played Samsonite, TSA, appetite feds Whole suitcase packed with recycled threads
Cracker Jack, cataracts, Shadowfax Porsche Three random nouns and you're back on course Battle axe spin, Dranzer Beyblade Another toy reference - pattern maintained
Moroccan hash from Marrakesh, okay Then Taco Bell GPS ruined the getaway Jagged Edge banging through speakers loud Nostalgia doing most of the work for the crowd
Papers stacked like a bookshop? Nice First bar came back wearing different Nikes Push Pop, Woodstock, Michael and Peanuts You throw names at the wall and pray they redeem it
That's the difference - you name-drop culture I take your references, circle like vultures You need cars, straps, cartoons, celebs I need eight clean bars and a reason to flex
So morph again, pick whatever colour you choose Red Ranger, Green Ranger - same lyrical moves Book bound? Cool, put this one beside it Your page full of props - mine came to revise it
Helmet comes off when the cameras all flash- Power Ranger track?
Comic-Con rap.
